A Tango concert was held on August 18, at the Chengdu Concert Hall on the occasion of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Argentina and the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the Year of Cooperation and Friendship. The concert hall is located in the urban district of Chengdu, where a new Argentine Consulate will also be installed.

The Argentine ambassador to the PRC, Sabino Vaca Narvaja, attended the event and in his speech expressed his desire to spread tango culture throughout Asian countries. The stars of the event were thecmusicians from the Tango Research and Practice Center of the Central Conservatory of Music and dancers from Argentina and the PRC. Tango’s own melody and dance are typical cultural symbols of Argentina. Its influence sweeps through the land of Sichuan, mingling with the tranquility of Chengdu. Over the past 50 years, cultural exchanges between the People’s Republic of China and Argentina have continued to deepen. It is thought that the Argentine’s great enthusiasm and the hospitality of the Chinese will surely enhance the friendship between the two countries and continue to promote the development of bilateral relations.
