The People’s Republic of China begins pear exports to the Argentine Republic

According to a report by the outlet Más Producción, the People’s Republic of China sent the first shipment of pears to the Argentine Republic. The shipment was sent by the company Botou Dongfang Fruit Co. Ltd and contains 2,597 boxes of this fruit, with a total weight of 17.5 tons. These have a value of 25,420 dollars, which in Chinese currency equals 183,000 yuan.
With this export, the first shipment of Chinese pears to Argentina is registered, according to a statement from the customs office in Shijiazhuang, in the northern province of Hebei.
According to data from China News Service, exports from this province during the first three months of 2025 reached a value of 420 million yuan, with a total volume of 69,000 tons. This shows an increase of 13.9% in value and 14.8% in volume compared to the same period of the previous year. In addition, this province has managed to distribute its fruits to around 50 countries worldwide.
In this regard, Li Yuxiang, an official from the Shijiazhuang customs office in the Canzhoy section, emphasized that the work of customs includes activities such as comprehensive supervision of the fruit’s production process, product inspection, and guidance to producing companies for the control of exotic pests, risks from toxic substances, and internal monitoring. Likewise, customs authorities stated that new logistical strategies have been implemented to speed up the export of the product while ensuring the freshness of the fruit.
On the other hand, several companies in Argentina’s fruit sector commented on this new importation of pears into the country. There was a diversity of opinions, although a favorable view of this new cooperation with the People’s Republic of China predominated.
Specifically, the president of the Cámara Argentina de Fruticultores Integrados (Cafi), Nicolás Sánchez, stated that “the way we see it, it’s fine, we export to 60 countries and we defend free trade. I think it’s an opportunity to export freely to China, complying with phytosanitary protocols, but not having them be an obstacle.”
Additionally, the president of Cafi mentioned that, currently, the processes required to export products to the People’s Republic of China are considerably more complex than those required of Chinese producers and exporters to send their products to the Argentine market.
The president expressed his disagreement with the high level of bureaucracy faced by Argentine exporters when sending their products to China. He commented that while Chinese producers can export immediately if they have containers available, Argentine producers must go through various processes to carry out a shipment.
Similarly, the head of the exporting company Tres Ases, Gabriel Grisanti, stated that if this agreement to import Chinese pears into Argentina leads to a full opening of the Chinese market, he would see the move as something positive. However, he expressed doubt that the Argentine government will seek fair conditions regarding the issue raised by the Cafi president, although he affirmed that Argentine producers have the ability to “compete and work with the world.”
Last but not least, it is worth mentioning that this importation of Chinese pears by the Argentine Republic takes place within a context of increasing bilateral cooperation in trade between both nations. This development could help promote more equitable negotiations regarding the sanitary protocols for exported and imported products, so that Argentine producers can gain access to the Chinese market with the same ease that Chinese producers currently enjoy in Argentina.
