According to a report from the media outlet Prensa Latina, the People’s Republic of China sent a trade mission to Argentina, which will seek to expand markets in the region, study potential investments in the country, and attempt to renew the bilateral cooperation memorandum that both nations signed in 2016.
This trade mission will be composed of senior executives from key companies in the People’s Republic of China and at least 15 public officials from the country, who will aim to secure agreements in Argentina and analyze new investments in key sectors of this nation.
Currently, China is the most important supplier of goods to the country led by Javier Milei, accounting for about 25% of the total imports, followed closely by Brazil with 24%, and somewhat further behind, the United States with 8.7% of what is consumed by the Latin American country.
Specifically, it is known that the Chinese delegation aims to study potential investments in key sectors of the Argentine economy, such as telecommunications, infrastructure, technology, financial services, energy, and food.
It is important to highlight that recently, the People’s Bank of China renewed the currency swap between both nations, agreeing on a new tranche of 5 billion dollars with the Central Bank of the Republic of Argentina (BCRA), an action that contributed to the positive development of the Argentine banking institution’s international reserves.
Additionally, it is worth mentioning what was stated by the media outlet Crónica, which noted that the arrival of this Chinese trade mission will take place in the context of the “full alignment of Javier Milei’s government with the U.S. administration”, with the meeting between Scott Bessent, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, and the Argentine president standing out.
This Chinese trade mission will have several bilateral meetings with banks, law firms, logistics companies, businesspeople, and laboratories in the Republic of Argentina, aiming to analyze potential investments in each of these sectors.
Furthermore, it is expected that this delegation will achieve the renewal of the bilateral cooperation memorandum that both nations have had since 2016, which was signed by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the Asia Chamber of Commerce of Argentina.
Last but not least, it is important to note that these meetings will involve the participation of various institutions and organizations, such as the China International Chamber of Commerce and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.
