The Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs withdrew the appointment of the Chilean Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Andreas Pierotic, despite the fact that the decision was made after China granted the agreement requested by Chile at the beginning of March. With such a decision, Pierotic was ready to assume the post on August 1st.

According to information published by “La Tercera”, a local newspaper in Chile, the Foreign Ministry opted to withdraw his appointment after a complaint of labor abuse against Pierotic was verified. At the same time, an alarm has been raised about the professional’s links with Isaac Givovich, the former son-in-law of Joaquín Lavín, accused of fraud and embezzlement in China.  It is also presumed that his appointment was influenced by President Gabriel Boric’s chief of staff, Matías Meza-Lopehandía, who was Givovich’s classmate at the Law School at Universidad de Chile.
