According to an article by the media outlet Publimetro, on June 24, 2025, in the city of Changchun, China, the first two trains intended for the implementation of the Bogotá Metro were delivered. These trains will be part of Line 1 of the project.
The delivery ceremony was held at the production plant of China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) and was also broadcast live on the social media platform Instagram, allowing the mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán, to virtually attend and witness the handover of the trains.
Regarding the delivery, Mayor Galán stated: “It is very exciting to see the progress of this project. This is a tremendously important milestone for Line 1 of the Bogotá Metro, where the first train is now beginning its journey to Bogotá, and very soon, the second one, already manufactured, will follow.”
According to reports from the Bogotá Mayor’s Office and statements made during the delivery ceremony in the Chinese city of Changchun, the two trains are expected to arrive in the Colombian capital by the end of September, where they will begin their testing process.
It is known that, once the metro system is delivered and begins operations in Bogotá, it will consist of a total of 30 trains, each composed of six cars, four of which will be motorized.
These trains will have a capacity of up to 1,800 passengers, and each will measure approximately 135 meters in length. Additionally, the average commercial speed will be around 43 kilometers per hour, and they will operate using a control system known as Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC), which ensures system safety through uninterrupted communication between the trains and the tracks.
Furthermore, a notable feature of the trains that will make up Bogotá’s metro system is that they will be 100% electric, contributing to the development of sustainable mobility in the Colombian capital.
The metro will run on exclusive tracks and will operate with a frequency of 140 seconds between trains, enabling the system to connect the vast city of Bogotá from north to south in an estimated 27 minutes.
Regarding the metro, the general manager of the Bogotá Metro Company, Leónidas Narváez, stated: “The civil works, stations, rail lines, and the depot yard are progressing steadily to receive these wonderful machines that are now a reality.”
The estimated manufacturing time for each train in the Bogotá Metro fleet is nine months, and production of the first train began in mid-2024, with work on all six cars taking place simultaneously.
The entire manufacturing process went through four phases: structure, assembly, systems, and painting. After that, technical, dynamic, and static tests were conducted on the train, which was subjected to a 2,500-kilometer test run under manual operation.
According to the director of the Supervisory Consortium for Line 1, Javier Descarga, various aspects of the trains were tested, including acceleration, braking, ventilation, and lighting, during the 2,500-kilometer run mentioned above, which was carried out last week.
