According to a report by Infobae, within the framework of the “China-CELAC Forum,” the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez, submitted a request to the People’s Republic of China for greater ease in financing and faster mechanisms of cooperation.
This statement was made during the fourth China-CELAC Ministerial Forum, which aims to assess the progress of the Joint Cooperation Plan 2022–2024 and establish a new roadmap to guide the bloc’s relations with China through 2027. Key themes will include public health, climate change, and education.
During the forum, Rodríguez stressed that the speeches and words shared at the event must become realities through accessible financing, concrete projects, and efficient cooperation mechanisms.
The Cuban minister also highlighted that the Belt and Road Initiative, the CELAC-China Joint Cooperation Plan 2022–2024, and efforts by the Chinese government have enabled the implementation of key projects for socioeconomic development, in line with the main interests of countries in the Global South.
Rodríguez further emphasized that the “China-CELAC Forum” has demonstrated both strategic importance and practical value, as it enables the achievement of mutual benefits and supports the building of a shared future for humanity. In this regard, the minister affirmed that China is a key partner for CELAC countries.
Last but not least, it is worth noting that in 2015, the People’s Republic of China set a goal of reaching an annual trade volume of $500 billion and investment of $250 billion with CELAC countries. However, according to data from EFE, between January and September 2021, multilateral trade between China and CELAC amounted to $427.4 billion.
