The president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, announced that he met with the president of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, last February to discuss the possibility of negotiating a free trade agreement with China. Confirming that the agreement was approved in Congress in less than 10 months, the head of state proclaimed the deal closed. The Ecuadorian president argued that the country’s industrial sectors under consideration included a guarantee of employment in the manufacturing industry, and encouraged small and medium-sized companies to export their products in the e-commerce sector.

In turn, President Lasso said: “The immediate potential of the agreement exceeds one billion additional dollars in exports. With this, 1.4 billion consumers in China will be able to sample our excellent products.”
