Five Latin American countries will be able to enter China without a visa for tourism trips

According to a report by the media outlet NTN24, within the framework of the “China-CELAC Forum,” the People’s Republic of China announced that five Latin American countries would be granted visa exemptions for tourism travel to the Asian country. Following the initial announcement, in which the specific countries were not named, it was confirmed on May 15 that they are Peru, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, and Brazil.

This measure will be in effect for a full calendar year, specifically from June 1, 2025, to May 31, 2026. Under this policy, citizens of these five countries will be able to enter China without a visa for a period of up to 30 days.

The announcement was made by Lin Jian, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, who stated during a press conference and on social media that “China continues to open up by expanding visa-free access and warmly welcomes more friends who wish to visit.”

This new measure is part of China’s broader strategy to strengthen connectivity with Latin American and Caribbean countries, a policy it has already applied to some Asian and European nations.

Additionally, the policy aims to boost tourism in China and restore international relations that were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, during which prolonged border restrictions were in place.

With this measure, all citizens holding a passport from these five nations and planning to visit the People’s Republic of China for purposes of tourism, family visits, exchanges, transit, or business will be allowed entry without a visa.

Last but not least, it is worth noting that, along with this announcement, the Chinese government also stated that citizens from other countries, such as Spain, will see an extension in their visa-free stay, increasing from 15 to 30 days.
