This announcement was made during the forum’s opening ceremony, where Chinese President Xi Jinping presented the roadmap for working jointly and enhancing cooperation with the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region.
One of the initiatives introduced was the Peace Project, which aims to contribute to the development of security in CELAC countries and encourage peace declarations, while also fighting corruption and strengthening the operational capacity of the military and police forces in these nations.
Specifically, President Xi stated that “China is ready to work with LAC to jointly implement the Global Security Initiative, support the Proclamation of LAC as a Zone of Peace and the declaration by the 33 countries in the region on the denuclearization of LAC, as well as to strengthen cooperation in disaster management, cybersecurity, counter-terrorism, anti-corruption, drug control, and the fight against transnational organized crime in order to safeguard regional security and stability.”
In addition, the Peace Project is expected to boost trade and investment while promoting cooperation in the areas of technology and infrastructure.
President Xi also introduced the People-to-People Links Project, which seeks to increase engagement between China and the CELAC bloc through academic and cultural exchanges, tourism, and professional training programs.
