The first people of Chinese descent arrived in Panama 169 years ago. Approximately 750 people from China emigrated to Panama to help build railroads. A monument was erected at the lookout point of the Las Americas Bridge to recognize the work and friendship between the two countries.

On March 30, 2022, members of the Chinese community and Panamanian authorities gathered at the monument to celebrate and commemorate the day of the arrival of the first Chinese settlers in Panama. The Chinese ambassador, Wei Qiang, placed a wreath at the monument made in honor of the date, and the celebration included traditional dances.
