Uruguayan president denies deadlock in Uruguay-China FTA negotiations

The Uruguayan weekly magazine Búsqueda published an article on how the situation in Ukraine and the tensions between Russia, the United States, and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) could potentiallly impact on China and, consequently, on the Free Trade Agreement with Uruguay. As one of the main beef producers in the world, Uruguay, on November 25, the National Meat Institute (INC) launched a promotional campaign called “Taste the meat in the year of Ox, a delicacy from Uruguay”. The event concluded on January 11.

Chinese car manufacturer, Lifan, withdraws from Uruguay

The Chinese car manufacturer is withdrawing from Uruguay and will not be able to pay layoffs and other salaries to its approximately 60 workers. The firm will also auction the machinery, spare parts and merchandise located in the industrial plant on route 1, in Ciudad del Plata, San José. Representatives of the company in Uruguay and China participated via Skype in a meeting at the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS) on October 25 to discuss the company’s decision.

Uruguay approves Extradition Treaty with China

October 12 marked the approval in the Uruguayan House of Representatives of the treaty between the People’s Republic of China and the Oriental Republic of Uruguay on Extradition, among other issues that were addressed during the plenary session.
