FLACSO Ecuador Hosts the Opening Day of the International Forum “China – Latin America: Perspectives and Debates”
Quito, April 2025 – The Ecuadorian campus of the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO) will host the opening of the International Forum China – Latin America: Perspectives and Debates on Wednesday, April 23. This institution, regionally recognized for its academic excellence in social sciences and its commitment to democracy and social justice, will welcome scholars and experts from over ten countries.
FLACSO Ecuador is part of the national university system and enjoys administrative and financial autonomy. Since its foundation, it has played a key role in graduate education and research, guided by a pluralistic, intergovernmental, and critical approach. As part of its mission, it connects academic knowledge with major public debates across the region.
The forum’s first day will feature keynote lectures and panels addressing topics such as international relations, trade, information technologies, and infrastructure projects promoted by China in Latin America. Activities will take place in the Hemicycle and the Poster Hall of Tower I.
Among the featured speakers are Tim Oakes (University of Colorado Boulder) and Carol Wise (University of Southern California), who will deliver keynote addresses on China-driven development models and their political influence in Latin America.
