China’s support to Argentina over the Falkland Islands sparked conflict with the U.K.
Great Britain rejected the People’s Republic of China’s position on Argentina’s claim over the Falkland Islands. This alarmed the British government even more after diplomatic matters became one of the priorities of the agreement signed by Alberto Fernández and Xi Jinping. Liz Truss, Britain’s Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary, said on her Twitter account: “We completely reject any questioning of the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands. The Falkland Islands are part of the British family and we will defend their right to self-determination.“
One of the conclusions of the meeting between Presidents Alberto Fernandez and Xi, Jimping, was China’s support for Argentina’s claim to the Falkland Islands. For its part, Argentina reaffirmed its convergence with the One China principle.
