Argentina at the V Sino-Latin American Defense Forum

The V Sino-Latin American Defense Forum was held online on December 13. The forum brought together the Minister of Defense of the People’s Republic of China, Wei Fenghe, and representatives of the armed forces and ministries of defense of 24 Latin American and Caribbean countries. The aim of the forum was to strengthen trust and cooperation in security matters between the Asian country and the region, and for the two to recognize certain common risks that they must deal with jointly. According to Fenghe, another of the forum’s purposesis to strengthen stability and contribute to building a shared future.
Argentina’s Minister of Defense, Jorge Taiana, attended the forum, stating that the meeting is a necessary multilateral stage in which to address the current global scenario, and thanked China for the position it has expressed on the current status of the Falkland Islands in other multilateral forums, such as the United Nations. The Secretary for International Defense Affairs, Francisco Cafiero, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Martín Paleo, were also present.
