The Argentine province of Santa Cruz and the Chinese city of Fuzhou, in the Fujian province, have signed a trade agreement focused on key areas such as mining, fishing and energy.
This agreement opens new development opportunities for both regions. The governor of Santa Cruz Claudio Vidal highlighted the importance of this alliance to generate genuine employment and strengthen the provincial economy, underlining the mutual commitment to promote trade and investments in a framework of reciprocity and shared benefit.
The agreement between Santa Cruz and Fuzhou covers multiple aspects that aim to promote the economic and productive development of the Argentine province. The deal establishes an investment collaboration, set to incentivize companies from Fuzhou to invest in projects in Santa Cruz. This could range from the expansion of productive capacity in sectors such as mining and energy to the development of new infrastructure and technologies.
The agreement also seeks to strengthen commercial ties, which implies an increase in the exchange of goods and services between both regions. This could translate into an increase in exports of Santa Cruz products to Fuzhou and, in turn, a greater import of Chinese products to Santa Cruz.
Sectors such as fishing, energy and agriculture could especially benefit from this collaboration, as they are areas in which both regions have complementary capabilities and resources.
In addition, the agreement seeks to promote cooperation in areas such as technology, innovation and the transfer of knowledge.
The agreement is part of Argentina’s broader efforts to strengthen its relations with China, as evidenced by the recent visit of Foreign Minister Diana Mondino to Beijing and the change of tone of President Javier Milei towards China, having adopted a more pragmatic approach towards the Asian country.
Governor Vidal has highlighted that the main objective of the agreement is to promote the productive and energy development of Santa Cruz, generating employment and reducing dependence on the State. The agreement focuses on strengthening trade and investment ties in strategic sectors and establishing principles of equality, mutual benefit and common development, aligned with the Chinese philosophy of cooperation. These investments are expected to boost the province’s economic growth and add value to its natural resources.
