The Argentine Minister of Defense, Jorge Taina, has recognized the issue of obsolescence in the country’s military equipment, downplaying President Alberto Fernández’s statement regarding the need for external financing for new acquisitions. Regarding the potential incorporation of supersonic jets, it is not only necessary to meet the technical requirements of the Air Force but also to establish conditions that facilitate payment for the acquired military aircraft.
While military analysts question the maneuvering capacity of the current administration, the Minister of Defense has been active in meetings with leaders from the Asian country and legislative representatives from the United States. The most significant meeting took place in Beijing, regarding the possible funding from the government of Xi Jinping, where Taina held a meeting with authorities from the State Administration for Science, Technology, and Industry for National Defense (SASTIND), preceding another meeting with executives from CATIC (China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation), who will offer the FC-1 Xiaolong fighters.
