With the aim of improving prices and consolidating business relationships, Argentine meat exporters will participate in Sial China 2024, one of the most important food sector fairs, which will be held from May 28 to 30 in Shanghai.

The Argentine Beef Promotion Institute (IPCVA) will lead the participation with the Argentine Beef Pavilion, the largest in its history with 1,150 square meters. It will feature 31 Argentine exporting companies, including Arrebeef, Azul Natural Beef, Carne Hereford, Carne Vireyes, Catter Meat, Compañía Bernal, Ecocarnes, Friar, Frigorífico General Pico, and many more.

Jorge Grimberg, president of IPCVA, expressed optimism about participating in the fair: “We will see what happens with Chinese market prices, which are still somewhat depressed today, and if face-to-face negotiations can achieve other alternatives”.

Mario Ravettino, vice president of IPCVA and president of the ABC Consortium, highlighted the importance of the Chinese market: “Argentina considers the Chinese market one of the most important among those where it markets and places its meat products.”

The Argentine Beef Pavilion will feature a large business center and a restaurant where exporters can invite their clients to taste grilled ribeye and striploin steaks. This space is designed to facilitate meetings and negotiations, seeking to close deals that improve current meat prices.

Hugo Borrell from ArreBeef, Gustavo Quirelli from Frigorífico Recreo, and other company representatives emphasized the importance of the fair in understanding the Chinese market situation and seeking strategies to improve Argentine exports. In the words of Carlos Riusech from Frigorífico Gorina: “China is buying the usual volumes, but we struggle to understand the price level.”

Between January and March 2024, Argentina exported 152,055 tons of beef to China, worth over 435 million dollars. In 2023, sales reached 528,618 tons, totaling 1.648 billion dollars.

Miguel Schiariti, director of the Argentine Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Meats (CICCRA), spoke about the current challenges of the industry: “We are coming from a year of drought that caused the delay in cattle and meat prices. Today, the industry is complicated.”

With this outlook, Sial China is a crucial platform for Argentine meat exporters, offering the opportunity to improve prices and strengthen business relationships in such a vital market as China.
