According to a report by the media outlet El Economista, within the framework of “Expo Sial China 2025,” the Republic of Argentina, through the Argentine Beef Promotion Institute (IPCVA), signed a strategic agreement with the Chinese company JD.COM, which is currently the largest and most important e-commerce platform in the world, with 600 million users on its network.
The purpose of the agreement signed between the Argentine institution and the Chinese company is to enhance the presence of beef from the South American country in the market of the People’s Republic of China, which, in 2024, received at least 74% of Argentina’s total exports of this product, generating sales worth 3.672 billion US dollars.
This bilateral agreement between JD.COM and IPCVA will allow the Argentine institution to access data on the behavior of Chinese consumers in that market, as well as on trends, preferences and main tastes, also leading to the optimization of positioning strategies.
Likewise, the agreement will enable IPCVA to strengthen its direct relationship with consumers through technological tools such as live broadcasts, digital marketing campaigns and gastronomic festivals. In this way, the Argentine beef brand Argentine Beef will have greater reach and visibility in e-commerce.
It is worth noting that in the previous year, 2024, Argentine beef exports to the People’s Republic of China totaled 2,222 tons of chilled boneless beef, 183,271 tons of bone-in beef and 387,391 tons of frozen boneless beef. Among the main cuts sent to the Asian country are rump heart, tenderloin, steaks and, above all, “Kosher” certified products.
Additionally, other cuts that have benefited from the Chinese market include marucha and aguja, which are part of the forequarter. Since entering the Chinese market, their value has increased, contributing to the development of the export industry and raising cattle prices.
The agreement was concluded and signed at the Argentine Beef pavilion of the aforementioned expo by the president of IPCVA, Georges Breitschmitt, and by the general manager of the meat business at JD.COM, Li Ranxin.
This bilateral agreement will contribute to the development of Argentina’s export industry through technological innovation, data collection and analysis of consumer behavior, strengthening its presence in the Asian country’s market, developing a long-term strategy, expanding its product offering, creating new partnerships and generating high impact in the Chinese e-commerce sector.
Last but not least, it is worth mentioning that this new agreement between the Argentine Beef Promotion Institute (IPCVA) and the Chinese company JD.COM takes place in a context of trade conflicts based on the imposition of tariffs, which has generated tensions in the international market. However, the agreement will contribute to the sustainable growth of Argentine beef in China.
