The Chinese company Hanaq Group has reached a major milestone in its Doncella lithium project, located in the Salar de Arizaro, Salta, Argentina, by obtaining the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) following successful completion of the Local Public Consultation and the Public Hearing with the Tolar Grande community.
With this approval, the company will proceed with the construction of a pilot plant that will use cutting-edge Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) technology, marking the first time this method will be used in Argentina. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 3,000 tons of high-purity lithium carbonate (above 99.6% LCE).
The Doncella project currently spans 33 concessions, covering a total area of 62,507 hectares, underscoring the project’s vast potential in one of the world’s most promising regions for lithium mining.
The final product, lithium carbonate, will have a lithium content exceeding 99.6%, meeting the highest quality standards for advanced applications in the battery industry. This development not only positions Hanaq as a key player in Argentina’s lithium industry but also sets a milestone in adopting more efficient and sustainable technologies for extracting this critical mineral for the global energy transition.
