Chinese electronics company TCL is considering closer cooperation with Brazilian home appliance manufacturer SEMP. SEMP founder Affonso Brandão Hennel and TCL Group president Li Dongsheng met in Shenzhen, China, to explore opportunities to collaborate and expand their joint business into the photovoltaic sector. Following the great success of the jointly manufactured products, Hennel said, “the business opportunities between China and Brazil are growing dramatically. We are confident that Brazil’s needs and China’s capabilities as a supplier will match.”
Established in 1942, SEMP was the first company in Brazil to produce domestically manufactured radios and televisions. Now, the partnership with TCL dates back to 2016, when Hennel and Li came together to create the SEMP TCL joint venture, based in Brazil. Since then, the market share of SEMP TCL-branded TVs has steadily increased and now ranks among the top three in Brazil, with huge market potential.
