The Chinese company BYD has started sending trains to Brazil as part of the construction project for São Paulo’s Golden Line Monorail, a project that has been delayed for over a decade and is expected to begin operations in 2026.
This summer, BYD sent the first of fourteen trains that will run on the line, all manufactured in China and equipped with advanced technology, including full automation and pneumatic suspension to enhance passenger comfort. Each train will consist of five cars with a capacity of 600 passengers, according to Tyler Lee, president of BYD Brazil.
The project has generated high expectations among users, who have been waiting for this new transportation option for years. The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, recently inspected the first train delivered and highlighted the potential of this infrastructure to attract more foreign investment.
Freitas emphasized that the state plans to significantly expand the monorail system, and that Chinese companies, with their expertise and technology, are key partners in the development of these projects in Brazil.
