China has announced a $200 million investment to modernize six airports in Colombia, strengthening the country’s airport infrastructure and positioning it as a key connection hub in Latin America. This megaproject, led by the Sociedad Operadora de Aeropuertos Centro Norte in collaboration with China’s Capital Airport Holding Company, includes upgrades to runways, platforms, buildings, and security systems, as well as the acquisition of new equipment.
The airports set to benefit are Olaya Herrera (Medellín), El Caraño (Quibdó), Antonio Roldán Betancourt (Carepa), Los Garzones (Montería), Las Brujas (Corozal), and José María Córdova (Rionegro). The latter will receive 50% of the total investment due to its strategic importance and high passenger traffic. The planned improvements aim to raise the standards of quality and safety in air transportation, fostering more efficient connectivity within the region.
