Colombia and China strengthen legislative ties

On January 30, Zhao Leji, China’s top legislator and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, met in Beijing with Iván Name, President of the Colombian Congress, and Andrés David Calle, Speaker of the Colombian Chamber of Deputies. During the meeting, both sides agreed to promote exchanges and cooperation between their respective legislative bodies.

In October last year, during the state visit of Colombian President Gustavo Petro to China, the leaders of China and Colombia elevated the relationship between the two countries to the level of “strategic partnership”. Zhao Leji expressed China’s willingness to work with Colombia in implementing such a new agreement, thus contributing to the long-term development of the strategic partnership.

For their part, Name and Calle reaffirmed Colombia’s commitment to the “One China” policy. They added that Colombia is willing to learn from China’s development experience, strengthen exchanges between legislative bodies and promote dynamic and friendly relations between the two countries.

The China-Colombia strategic partnership is positioned as a key element in the bilateral agenda, and both nations are committed to taking advantage of this alliance to promote development and mutual cooperation. The emphasis on Colombia’s adherence to the “One China” policy underscores the importance of stability in diplomatic relations, while the exchange of development experience aims to strengthen ties between the two countries in various fields.

The meeting between the legislative leaders of China and Colombia aims to consolidate and strengthen the recently established strategic partnership and promote cooperation and mutual understanding for the benefit of both nations. The initiative aims to build a solid and lasting relationship, explore opportunities for common growth and build bridges of understanding through legislative exchanges and bilateral cooperation.
