Guatemala Receives Second Taiwan Disbursement for SICA Projects

Guatemala’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Ramiro Martínez, participated in the official ceremony for the second disbursement of cooperation funds from the Republic of China (Taiwan) for projects under the Central American Integration System (SICA). The event was also attended by Belize’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amalia Mai, the Ambassador of Taiwan to Guatemala, Vivia Chang, and the Executive Director of SICA.
During his speech, Minister Martínez emphasized the importance of this cooperation for regional development, highlighting key areas such as the strengthening of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), tourism, and the protection of the marine environment through the SICA AZUL initiative. He also underscored the need to enhance regional cooperation in times of global challenges and to strengthen integration with strategic partners like Taiwan.
The funds from this second disbursement will be allocated to five key areas:
- Institutional strengthening of SG-SICA.
- Public health.
- Development of MSMEs and sustainable tourism.
- Protection of the marine environment.
- Digital transformation.
