Honduras and China signed a cooperation agreement for the renovation of educational infrastructure in the Central American country. The minutes of the Preparatory Technical Meeting for Research on the Educational Infrastructure Project in Honduras were signed by Foreign Minister Eduardo Enrique Reina and the Chinese ambassador to Tegucigalpa, Yu Bo.
On behalf of President Xiomara Castro, the Honduran Foreign Minister expressed gratitude to China for its commitment to supporting the reconstruction of Honduras’ educational system. The agreement adds to the Non-Reimbursable Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement signed in March 2023, with significant investment expected this year in educational infrastructure and equipment across the country.
Chinese Ambassador Yu Bo emphasized the importance of this agreement in strengthening friendship and cooperation between the two nations. The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister of Education, Jaime Rodríguez, who thanked China for its investment benefiting Honduran children and youth.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Honduras and China just over a year ago, both countries have made progress in bilateral cooperation. The anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations was on March 26.
President Xiomara Castro’s visit to China last year and meetings between leaders of both countries have laid the groundwork for closer cooperation. Additionally, progress has been made in negotiating the Free Trade Agreement between China and Honduras, boosting bilateral trade growth.
China has demonstrated its commitment to Honduras’ development through initiatives such as the Belt and Road, with Honduras joining as a member. Furthermore, China’s 2023 International Import Expo attracted significant Chinese investment to Honduras.
Similarly, cooperation in the cultural and educational fields has been highlighted, with joint archaeology projects and the establishment of sister city relationships. Both countries hope to continue strengthening exchanges at all levels to promote mutual understanding.
