Honduras signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with PowerChina International Group Limited and the Belt and Road International Green Development Coalition (BRIGC) to transform its energy sector, marking a milestone in bilateral relations with China. This agreement, signed within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, lays the foundation for the development of a Master Energy Plan focused on adopting renewable technologies such as hydroelectric, solar, wind, and geothermal energy.
Honduras’ ambassador to China, Salvador Moncada, emphasized that the plan aims to diversify the country’s energy matrix, ensure access to clean and affordable energy for vulnerable communities, and promote sustainability in alignment with President Xiomara Castro’s priorities. This project also includes technology transfer, technical training, and job creation, contributing to Honduras’ economic and social development.
During the signing ceremony, China’s Vice Minister of the Environment, Zhao Yingmin, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to combating climate change, highlighting the implementation of advanced technologies for water management and disaster prevention.
The agreement represents progress in bilateral relations between the two countries, solidifying a partnership based on sustainability and long-term prosperity. The shared vision of Presidents Xiomara Castro and Xi Jinping, focused on sustainable development, enables Honduras to move toward a resilient and green energy model, tailored to address current and future climate challenges.
