The Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD, the world’s leading electric vehicle company, is finalizing details for the creation of a new manufacturing plant in Mexico.
Jorge Vallejo, BYD’s general manager for Mexico, stated in an interview with the Mexican outlet Excelsior that the Mexican manufacturing plant is a reality and that at this moment bilateral conversations are being held between the countries, and the relevant analysis of infrastructure, logistics, business environment, training and human quality are being carried out..
He also confirmed that they are assessing and studying different cities that have the infrastructure and necessary facilities to house the project, both in the center, north and Bajío regions of the country.
Vallejo said that there are several cities “that have offered their ports, roads, railroads, logistics, inland ports and industrial parks. They are all states that have the capacity to take an investment like this. We are very grateful for their interest in supporting BYD.”
The official announcement of the plant is expected in the coming weeks. The proposed plant is expected to produce about 150,000 units, with a sales goal for 2024 of 50 distribution points with at least 50,000 units – surging to 100,000 by 2025. If these goals come to fruition, BYD would establish itself as one of the top five brands in the country and, the first when it comes to electric vehicles.
Although these are the sales projections at national level, this plant could supply more countries in the region in the future, together with the production plant currently being built in Brazil.
They also plan to create a “Vision Center” to improve the processes and designs “of all models in order to be more efficient and be able to deliver them quickly”, said Vallejo.
