Chinese culture promoted in Mexico through poetry
Sun Xintang is a Chinese scholar and writer born in 1975 in Guantao, China. In order to promote his country’s culture in Mexico, Xintang selected and translated seven poems by three different Chinese authors for the digital magazine OtrosDiálogos, which belongs to Colegio de México. By doing so, he hopes to create connections or literary ties between the two countries.
For his publication, he chose contemporary poets: Shen Haobo (with “Under the Laurel” and “Her Moon”), Hu Xian (with “A Chinese Character, “Snow” and “Reading the Mountains in Pingwn”), and Li Cheng-en (with “Twilight” and “On Sweetness”). The Chinese writer highlighted the qualities of each poet: Hu Xian expresses the Chinese millennial poetic tradition with current affairs; Shen Haobo represents Chinese colloquial poetry, and Li Cheng-en highlights nature’s elements of meditation.
