The official handover ceremony took place on the night of Saturday, March 8, on Avenida de Bolívar a Chávez in Managua. During the event, the Government of Nicaragua delivered 500 buses, purchased from the People’s Republic of China, to transport cooperatives from different departments across the country. This initiative aims to modernize and upgrade public transport fleets, particularly in the Caribbean Coast region.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China and officials from the Chinese company Yutong, which manufactured the buses. Nicaragua had previously signed a purchase agreement with Yutong, leading to the acquisition of these 500 vehicles as part of the country’s public transportation modernization plan.
These buses are part of the 2,000 units Nicaragua has purchased from China to date to improve urban public transportation. Additionally, the handover, led by President Daniel Ortega, was also a tribute to Nicaraguan women, as it coincided with International Women’s Day on March 8.
