Paraguay and Taiwan strengthen cooperation ties in Hualien Air Base

Paraguayan President Mario Abdo Benítez began an official visit to the Republic of China (Taiwan) from February 14 to 18, where he held important talks with different sectors related to military, commercial, technical, and cultural exchanges with the Asian nation. On the morning of February 17, President Abdo visited the Hualien Air Force Base, accompanied by President Tsai Ing-wen in Taiwan. Tsai stated that, “Taiwan wishes to deepen cooperation with all like-minded countries to advance global security, peace, and regional stability.” During the meeting, President Tsai presented President Abdo with a flight jacket, a cap, and a parachute cord from the 5th Tactical Composite Wing of the Air Force, while President Abdo presented her with a Paraguayan flight jacket. It is worth mentioning that President Abdo joined the Paraguayan Armed Forces in 1989, obtaining the title of Second Lieutenant of the Aviation Reserve.
In Taipei, President Abdo and President Tsai also participated as keynote speakers at the Women’s Empowerment Forum, where they highlighted the results of bilateral cooperation in supporting women entrepreneurs. President Abdo was also a keynote speaker at an Investment Conference, where he presented Paraguay’s strengths and business opportunities for Taiwanese entrepreneurs and business representatives. He also took the opportunity to meet and talk with young Paraguayan scholarship holders in Taiwanese institutions, who, once they finish their studies, should return to contribute to the country’s development with their knowledge and experience.
