Taiwan and Paraguay negotiate investment project to develop electric buses

Paraguay’s Minister of Industry and Commerce, Javier Giménez, and the Deputy Minister of Industry, Lorena Méndez, met with representatives of the Taiwanese automotive company Master Transportation Bus Manufacturing Ltd. as well as with the Taiwanese Ambassador to Paraguay José Chih-Cheng Han to discuss an investment project for the manufacturing of electric buses in Paraguay.
The proposal seeks to develop a chassis and body factory with an estimated investment of $30 million. The project has the potential to generate between 2,000 and 2,500 direct jobs in the country, in addition to benefiting local suppliers, according to Aníbal Giménez, director of Industrial Policy at Paraguay’s Vice-Ministry of Industry. The technology offered by the Taiwanese company includes a fast charging system, indicating a commitment to efficient and sustainable solutions.
This is the third visit by Master Transportation Bus Manufacturing Ltd. to Paraguay, after previous interactions with the President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, and the Master Bus team. During these meetings, demands, costs and services have been assessed, highlighting the significant economic advantage of adopting electric buses in the Paraguayan context.
Giménez pointed out that the joint work between the technical teams is expected to continue to fine-tune the details of the project. The company is in contact with other partners in the region, which offers greater opportunities for the introduction of this technology in the Paraguayan, as well as regional, market.
The Executive Vice President of Master Transportation Bus Manufacturing Ltd., Terense Shen, expressed his positive view of Paraguay’s potential in the electromobility sector, both for local use and for export in the Mercosur region. Overall, the meeting reflects a strong interest and significant progress towards the introduction of electric buses and the promotion of electromobility in Paraguay and the region.
