Peru to expand its presence in the Chinese agricultural market

The Minister of Agricultural Development and Irrigation, Nelly Paredes del Catillo, held a meeting with her Chinese counterpart, Tan Renjian, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People’s Republic of China. During the meeting, they discussed matters of mutual interest and emphasized the need to strengthen the trade ties between the two countries. Minister Paredes highlighted the importance of making progress on pending agreements for the export of Peruvian agricultural products and livestock items. This meeting took place within the framework of the 3rd International Grape and Wine Conference held in Yinchuan, Ningxia Province.
Additionally, the Chinese Minister of Agriculture expressed a commitment to addressing outstanding tasks and demonstrated interest in technical collaboration for research on quinoa cultivation, considering Peru’s status as the world’s leading producer and exporter. Both officials praised the positive results of the meeting and highlighted the remarkable growth in commercial relations between Peru and China. It is worth noting that, thanks to the Free Trade Agreement between the two countries, Peruvian exports to China surpassed US $20.891 billion in 2022, accounting for 33% of Peru’s total exports.
