The Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the foreign minister Javier González-Olaechea will carry out a series of official visits to the People’s Republic of China and France over the coming weeks, with the aim of strengthening bilateral relations, coordinating important high-level meetings, and advancing the country’s integration to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
The visit to Beijing is scheduled for April 29th and 30th and aims to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Peru and China in various fields, including politics, economy, culture, and cooperation. According to the plan, this visit is framed within the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership reached between the two countries in 2013, which has positioned China as Peru’s main commercial and investment partner.
During his stay in China, Chancellor González-Olaechea will meet with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, as well as other government authorities, to discuss the bilateral agenda and preparations for future high-level visits.
The visit is intended to reinforce foreign policy that will position Peru on the international stage and build a positive agenda with Asia-Pacific countries.
Subsequently, the Peruvian foreign minister will also travel to Paris, where he will participate in the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting scheduled from May 2nd to 3rd, 2024. His participation in Paris is in response to an invitation from the OECD Secretary-General and the Prime Minister of Japan, reflecting Peru’s political commitment to advancing its integration process to this organization.
During his stay in France, González-Olaechea will hold meetings with high-level OECD officials, as well as with officials from the OECD Development Centre and other international authorities. Additionally, he will meet with the Secretary-General of the International Exhibition Bureau to promote Peru’s participation in Expo Osaka 2025.
These visits reflect Peru’s commitment to strengthening its international relations and integration into the global community, as well as its interest in promoting its economic and cultural development through international cooperation.
