During the virtual inauguration of the Chancay megaport, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized that this project will establish Peru as a strategic hub connecting Asia with Latin America. He highlighted that the port will reduce maritime transport time to China by over ten days, cut logistics costs by more than 20%, and generate significant revenue and job opportunities for Peru. Xi described Chancay as South America’s first smart and green port, underscoring its importance as a pillar of economic development and a model of international cooperation.
In his speech, the Chinese leader expressed his commitment to strengthening collaboration between China and Latin America, affirming that the port will provide “shared gains in a broader space” and that the region’s people “will feel benefited and satisfied.” He concluded with a call for unity: “Let us sail shoulder to shoulder to embrace the world and move toward a brighter tomorrow.”
Peruvian President Dina Boluarte echoed Xi’s sentiments, stating that the Chancay port demonstrates how Chinese investment drives sustainable development in Peru, marking a milestone in bilateral relations.
