América TV and the newspaper El Comercio have signed a collaboration agreement with China Media Group (CMG), a Chinese state-owned conglomerate that includes China Central Television, China National Radio, and China Radio International. The agreement aims to produce content that appeals to both Peruvian and Chinese audiences, according to Fernando Muñiz Bethancourt, CEO of América Multimedia.
Muñiz Bethancourt explained that CMG, through its subsidiary in Brazil, reached out to América TV two months ago. Among the possibilities discussed, he highlighted the production of content for China’s 80,000 cinemas, exploring narratives that connect Peruvian and Chinese cultures, as well as joint productions for digital platforms.
The agreement was signed at the historic headquarters of El Comercio during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Lima. The Chinese delegation was led by Shen Haixiong, president and editor-in-chief of CMG, who also serves as vice minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China.
