On November 14, Presidents Dina Boluarte and Xi Jinping will officially inaugurate the Chancay megaport in a virtual ceremony from the Government Palace in Lima, due to security concerns for the Chinese leader, as stated by Peruvian Foreign Minister Elmer Schialer.
Meanwhile, high-ranking officials from both countries will attend the event in Chancay, located 80 kilometers north of Lima. This infrastructure, primarily developed with Chinese investment, marks a significant milestone in Peru-China cooperation and aims to position Peru as a logistics hub for exports from Latin America to Asia.
The first phase of the megaport involves an investment of $1.4 billion for four docks, 27 cranes, and 40 autonomous vehicles, streamlining cargo transit to Asia. The second phase, projected for completion in four years, aims to triple the port’s cargo capacity, establishing Chancay as a key node in international trade.
