According to a report by Prensa Latina, within the framework of the “Uruguay Business Forum” held in the city of Guangzhou, around one hundred entrepreneurs from the People’s Republic of China gathered at the International Exchange and Cooperation Center of that city.
In this regard, Facundo Simón, Consul General of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, stated that “the objective was to provide a comprehensive view of Uruguay as a strategic trade partner of China and as a potential destination for investment.”
The consul also noted that his country’s main export destinations are the six southern provinces of the People’s Republic of China, and that Uruguay even exports goods of higher value to these provinces than to some entire countries, highlighting the strength of the commercial relationship between both nations.
Specifically, the provinces with the strongest commercial ties with Uruguay and that were represented at the forum were Hainan, Guangdong, Fujian, and Hunan.
During the forum, representatives from the South American country presented the key reasons why Uruguay is an attractive destination for Chinese business investment, emphasizing its domestic policies favoring foreign investment and a stable business environment.
They also highlighted Uruguay’s strategic sectors, such as information technology, agribusiness, logistics infrastructure, and renewable energy, among others. In addition, they emphasized the investment law, the digital ecosystem, the free trade zone system, and the availability of free ports and airports.
Last but not least, it is worth noting that among the Uruguayan representatives present at the forum was the National Meat Institute, which delivered a presentation addressing one of the country’s most important export sectors: the meat industry, in which the institute is actively involved.
