Russia, Iran, and China show their military strength during maneuvers in Venezuela
The International Army Games 2022 will be held from August 13 to 27 and will take place in 12 countries, including Venezuela. Two hundred and seventy-five teams from more than 30 countries, including China, Iran, and Russia, will participate in this event. The Games involve “Sniper Frontier” activities, in which the 4 countries will carry out joint military exercises. According to the Center for a Secure Free Society, the ultimate goal of this coordinated exercise is the deployment of strategic military equipment in the area. This comes at a particular time for relations between Russia, Iran, Venezuela, and China, where competition for oil imports, exports, and prices have somewhat frayed economic relations between these countries. Nevertheless, the deployment of this military activity paints a picture of robust and close military relations.
In parallel, approximately one month ago, President Daniel Ortega of Nicaragua announced that he will allow the construction of Russian military bases in his territory. Meanwhile, in its Independence Day parade, Venezuela presented a series of Iranian technology drones, which have been assembled in Venezuela, and renamed from Mohajer-2 to Antonio José de Sucre-100 (ANSU-100). Finally, Nicolás Maduro did not attend the meeting for fear of being assassinated by bounty hunters, which reflects the country’s fragile state of law and order. For his part, Vladimir Putin has been making provocative statements, talking about the end of the unipolar order of the United States. This has generated tension and speculation about the military meeting.
