Venezuela and China reaffirm commitment to strengthen the pharmaceutical industry and cooperate on hydrocarbons
Magaly Gutiérrez, the representative of President Nicolás Maduro’s Ministry of Health, had a meeting with Xuetao Cao, the Vice-Minister of the National Health Commission of China, during the World Health Organization (WHO) assembly in Geneva, Switzerland. Gutiérrez expressed their commitment to further advance the agreements established with China, particularly in strengthening Venezuela’s national pharmaceutical industry, focusing on the quality of medicines and the revitalization of nuclear medicine. The minister shared this update on her Twitter account. It is important to note that in early May, the Ministry expressed gratitude to allied countries like China and Russia for their support in the fight against Covid-19, including the sale and provision of vaccines, equipment, and medical supplies.
In a separate development, Rafael Tellechea, the president of Venezuela’s state-owned company Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), met with Lan Hu, the ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, to discuss bilateral cooperation in the hydrocarbon sector. The Ministry of Petroleum has also been engaging with authorities from other countries to strengthen collaboration in the energy industry. However, no further details have been provided regarding the discussions held during these meetings.
