The Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil has paid an official visit to the People’s Republic of China to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
Gil’s visit to China highlights the importance of the strategic partnership between the two nations, which has seen a notable rapprochement under the administration of President Nicolás Maduro. During the Venezuelan president’s visit to China in September 2023, 31 new bilateral agreements were signed, covering areas such as the economy, geology, health, mining, habitat and housing, electricity, telecommunications, among other issues.
Venezuela and China’s commitment to strengthening their economic and commercial ties has been reflected in the signing of important agreements in recent months. Among them are a law approving air services between the two countries, as well as the agreement on the promotion and reciprocal protection of investments signed by Venezuela’s Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez, and China’s International Trade Representative, Wang Shouwen.
The close collaboration between Venezuela and China is not limited to the economic sphere, as it also encompasses social, cultural and environmental aspects. Recently, agreements have been signed for the development of scientific and technological projects, the conservation of tropical forests in Venezuela, and the promotion of space research and oceanography.
On June 28, Venezuela and China are set to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Gil’s visit reaffirms the commitment of both countries to continue strengthening their ties of friendship and cooperation for mutual benefit.
The Venezuelan Foreign Minister’s visit to China not only strengthens ties between the two countries, but also sends a message of closeness in a complex regional and international context.
