According to an article from the outlet Mundo Marítimo, some business leaders in Brazil highlighted the opportunities that may arise from cooperation and investment between Brazil and Peru, aiming to reduce export costs to the People’s Republic of China and other Asian countries through bioceanic corridors and the Chancay Megaport.
This announcement by the Brazilian business sector was made during a seminar on biogas and other renewable energies held in the city of São Paulo by the Brazil–Peru Chamber of Commerce, where businesspeople from both countries expressed the need to increase infrastructure investment to develop industrial hubs between Peru and Brazil.
In this regard, in an interview with the outlet Xinhua, the Vice President of the National Society of Industries of Peru (SNI), Pola Alvarado, emphasized that her country is interested in attracting investment from Brazil and strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas such as foreign trade and critical infrastructure.
Specifically, the SNI vice president stated that Peru is moving toward becoming a logistics-industrial hub, noting that the country already has a new port, as well as special economic zones that will enable industrial development, with the goal of exporting to several countries, especially Asian nations.
Currently, Brazil is the most important food supplier to the People’s Republic of China and has implemented public policies focused on expanding bioceanic corridors to facilitate access to the Pacific Ocean.
For its part, the Peruvian private sector stated that this new initiative by Brazil would generate new investments that will support the integration of production chains in various sectors of Peru.
Vice President Alvarado highlighted that “the connection with these ports is so Brazil can exit through the Pacific and have shorter travel times to Asia,” benefiting both Brazilian exporting companies and the Peruvian industry, particularly at the Chancay Megaport.
She also mentioned that her country must develop new industries and, in doing so, begin to export a variety of products rather than relying solely on raw materials, as is currently the case.
In addition, she pointed out that this connection will accelerate Brazil’s exports, especially food products destined for the People’s Republic of China, while also contributing to the region’s industrialization.
Finally, Vice President Alvarado stated that “Peru already has infrastructure projects approved for 26 billion dollars this year, and over the next two years, the figure will reach 50 billion dollars.”
