China-Latin America Conference on sustainable development objectives
Nangchang, the capital of Jiangxi province, in eastern China, hosted the opening of the “China-Latin America Exchange of Experiences on Sustainable Development Goals” conference on October 19. The event was an opportunity to exchange information about the experiences, lessons learned, and progress made by China and Latin America and the Caribbean in their efforts to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Diplomatic envoys from Ecuador, Guyana, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Grenada, Uruguay, Cuba, Barbados, Peru, Mexico, and Suriname, among other countries, attended the meeting, along with more than a dozen experts and academics from the Institute of Latin American Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Jiangxi Academy of Social Sciences, and Jiangxi Agricultural University. In his speech, Ecuador’s Ambassador to China, Carlos Larrea, highlighted China’s progress in terms of poverty eradication, the fight against climate change, and the global response to the COVID-19 pandemic. He also highlighted the importance of China’s support to Ecuador in dealing with the pandemic, contributing to the early recovery of the country’s economy.
