Growing presence of the People’s Republic of China in Latin America
The People’ s Republic of China’s (PRC) great commitment in the last decade has been of great importance, the Asian country saw a great opportunity in the region and has pushed to maintain an important presence. According to an article published by the “El Economista” newspaper from Spain, PRC presence has grown mainly in Peru, Brazil, Chile and Venezuela, although Colombia is another of its big commercial interests.
This article highlights that the PRC’s relations with these countries are noteworthy. According to figures provided by the United Nations, imports and exports with the Asian country totaled $247 billion, compared to $174 billion with the United States. In turn, the World Economic Forum (WEF) stated that trade between the PRC and Latin America multiplied 26 months between 2000 and 2020 and could multiply in the next 15 years, reaching 700 billion dollars, according to the WEF.
