Mexico-China trade reaches record $100 billion in 2021
Mexico-China 2022 Forum: Recovery in action is a platform designed to promote and learn about each other, to move forward in the creation of integrating agendas that facilitate exchanges, with an open approach and deep friendship between peoples (Mexico-China Forum 2022: Recovery in action, 2022). The Forum deals with different topics including trade between Mexico and China, food exports to China, logistics between Mexico and China, and customs renovation, etc.
During a session at the Forum, the embassy’s Counsellor for Economic, Commercial and Promotional Affairs, Santiago Toledo, stated that the relationship between Mexico and China has been deepening in recent years, and assured that by 2022, all trade records between the two countries will be broken. He argued that once the data is available, 100 billion dollars of trade flow between Mexico and China will be registered. Bank of Mexico (Banixo) data shows that the value of foreign trade between the two countries amounted to 98.963 billion dollars during the January-November 2021 period. However, the Mexican government stressed the need to bring the balance of trade into line. Imports from China reached USD 90.555 million in November of this year, while exports amounted to USD 8.407 million, representing a deficit of USD 82.148 million for Mexico. The Mexican government hopes to boost manufacturing exports and diversify the portfolio of agricultural products that reach the Chinese market.
