The spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Mexico, Ma Zhen, stated that the Shen Yun performance, which took place in Mexico from May 4th to 6th, is considered a political tool against China and a façade for the Falun Gong sect. According to the embassy, Falun Gong seeks to survive overseas and uses the performance to obtain financial resources. Ma Zhen highlighted that Falun Gong was dismantled by the Chinese government in the 1990s, but its followers went into exile and continue to oppose the Chinese government. Furthermore, the embassy accused Falun Gong of having links with the US non-governmental organization NED, which also funds organizations opposing the Mexican government.
The Chinese Embassy in Mexico expressed concern about the Shen Yun performance, arguing that it contains episodes that reflect a violation of human rights by the Chinese government. According to the embassy, despite presenting itself as a cultural representation, the Shen Yun performance has a political agenda and promotes a false image. The embassy also rejected accusations of persecution and forced organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners, classifying them as unfounded and fabricated to delegitimize the Chinese government. The embassy warned foreign governments to be cautious about the alleged malicious intentions of Falun Gong. Additionally, the embassy spokesperson mentioned that Chinese diplomats have been threatened by Falun Gong practitioners in Mexico, with one of them receiving a threatening email after sending a letter of concern regarding the Shen Yun performance.
