The Argentine ambassador to China, Sabino Vaca Narvaja, is placing a strategic emphasis on the development of Chinese tourism in Argentina as a means to enhance the country’s foreign exchange earnings. Vaca Narvaja met with the governor of Hainan province to discuss potential areas of cooperation in trade, sports, and tourism. He proposed a sister city relationship between Hainan and Tierra del Fuego, as well as the possibility of establishing direct flights between the two countries. He also emphasized the importance of facilitating popular electronic payment methods in China and simplifying the visa application process. If progress can be made in these areas, it is expected to quickly attract 500,000 Chinese tourists and generate a significant influx of foreign exchange for Argentina.
Hainan province, strategically located along the Belt and Road Initiative, has shown significant annual growth and high foreign investment. Vaca Narvaja believes that Argentina has great potential to develop natural tourist destinations, which are preferred by the Chinese public. The ambassador highlighted that Argentina is the first South American country authorized by China to receive tourists as part of a pilot program to restart global tourism. Along with efforts to establish direct flights, facilitate electronic payments, and simplify visas, Chinese tourism in Argentina is expected to contribute significantly to improving the country’s foreign exchange earnings.
