The People’s Republic of China is strengthening its trade relations with Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). This is partly through the establishment of development investment commitments in the region. An example of this is the use of PRC companies in infrastructure development projects in LAC, along with the insertion of technologies and alternative energy sources to oil in the Latin American region.
An example of the above is the case of Foton, a company that specializes in the manufacture of commercial vehicles, and which has seen the highest international sales in its history. This transaction consists of the shipment of 1,022 emission-free electric buses to Chile, estimated to cost around €230 million. These buses are equipped with high-level technology, including WIFI and USB ports, among other amenities, and this shipment has made Chile the country with the largest fleet of clean energy vehicles in the region.
