Mining company Zijin-Continental Gold, based in Buriticá, Antioquia, was the target of an attack with a car bomb that tragically resulted in the loss of two lives and left several injured, including security personnel and employees of the mining company. The attack is suspected to have been carried out by illegal miners who were using the tunnel to extract gold illicitly. Investigations are ongoing, and the presence of the criminal group known as the ‘Clan del Golfo’ in the area has been reported.

In response to this worrying situation, the company has decided to temporarily suspend underground operations in the mine until adequate security conditions can be ensured. Furthermore, the intervention of the national government has been requested to address the issue of illegal mining, and a reward of 50 million pesos has been offered for any information that helps clarify the events and identify those responsible for the attack. Previously, the company had already issued a warning about the public order challenges that affect mining operations in the region.
