Costa Rica and China have signed an agreement of mutual recognition as trusted trade partners under the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) program. This agreement is intended to strengthen the trade relationship between the two countries by providing importers and exporters with certifications that grant them benefits at customs. The agreement reflects China’s growing influence in Costa Rica’s economy and its strategic role in the region, as it joins other Latin American countries that have also established mutual recognition agreements with China.

With the signing of this agreement, companies certified as AEO in Costa Rica will receive preferential conditions in the clearance of goods in China, which implies cost and time reductions in customs procedures. This demonstrates China’s increasing importance in the realm of international trade and its increasingly prominent presence in Latin America, solidifying its position as a key player in the regional economic landscape.
