Grisel Sanchez asks Nicaraguan president to “dust off” bilateral agreements between China and the Dominican Republic
The Central Committee of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) was founded in 1973 by Juan Bosch. The center-left PLD is one of the main political parties in DR and has governed in five presidential elections: Leonel Fernandez in 1996, 2004, 2008, and Danilo Medina from 2012 to 2020. In 2020, it was defeated in the general elections by the Partido Revolucionario Moderno thus becoming the opposition of the new government.
Grisel Sánchez, community leader of the Central Committee of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) demanded that the Government “dust off” some bilateral agreements signed between China and the Dominican Republic. He mentioned that these agreements cover cooperation in different areas, such as financial, commercial, migratory, agricultural, educational, tourism, aeronautics, among others. Sánchez believes that the implementation of this initiative could yield good results for his country. He also spoke on “Desahógate con la Diáspora” —a radio program by and for Dominicans living in the United States— about the need to help solve various social problems and to promote the socio-economic development of the Dominican Republic. In the framework of this program, he advised President Luis Abidaner to “put the agreements into action and make the stipulations of the agreements a reality”. Sánchez argued that DR’s economic and social development must precede all particular interests, referring to the differences that may exist between the United States and China.
